Volkswagen Group създава дъщерно дружество за батерии, за да интегрира веригата на стойността на батериите
Volkswagen has established a European battery company, Société Européenne, to integrate operations along the battery value chain – from raw material processing to developing unified Volkswagen batteries to managing European battery gigafactories. The company's scope of business will also include a new business model: recycling used car batteries and recycling their valuable battery raw materials.
Thomas Schmall, member of the Volkswagen Technical Management Board and CEO of Volkswagen Group Components, is responsible for the in-house production of batteries, charging and energy and components. "We want to supply our customers with powerful, affordable and sustainable automotive batteries, which means being active at all stages of the battery value chain, which is critical to success," he said.
Volkswagen plans to build six battery plants in Europe to meet rising demand for batteries within the group. The gigafactory in Salzgitter in Lower Saxony, Germany, will produce uniform batteries for the Volkswagen Group's production division. Volkswagen plans to invest 2 billion euros (2.3 billion) in the construction and operation of the plant until it starts production. The plant is expected to provide 2,500 jobs in the future.
Volkswagen's battery plant in Lower Saxony, Germany, will start production in 2025. In the initial stage, the plant will produce 20GWh of batteries per year, and at a later stage, VW plans to double the plant's annual battery production to 40GWh. Volkswagen's plant in Lower Saxony, Germany, will centralize research and development, planning and production control under one roof, and will thus become the battery center of the Volkswagen Group.
VW също така планира да построи още две гигафабрики за батерии в Испания и Източна Европа, чиито местоположения ще бъдат решени през първата половина на 2022 г. Volkswagen също планира да отвори още два завода за батерии в Европа до 2030 г.
In addition to the five battery gigafactories mentioned above, Swedish battery startup Northvolt, in which VW has a 20 percent stake, will build VW's sixth battery plant in Skelleftea, northern Sweden, which will start producing batteries for VW's high-end cars in 2023.
